No child left inside

We are very lucky to have Jane come and teach us some fundamental skills through a programme called 'No child left inside'.

This term we are learning lots of running and jumping skills and at the end of our sessions we are going to have an athletics day with the rest of the Kowhai syndicate and the potiki from Te Pouahi.

This week Jane taught us how to jump hurdles.

First she taught us how far away from the hurdle we should jump from.  It was about 2 of our foot lengths away.

Then we all had a great time taking turns running and jumping a line of hurdles.

Some of us were a bit nervous to do something new but we all tried our hardest and gave it a really good go!

Then Jane taught us how to stand with our legs apart and knees bent so we are ready to go at the start of a race.
We learnt that when Jane says the words "ready, set, go!" we start running on the word "go"

We also learnt it was really important to keep running as fast as we can and keep our stride length the same.

We had a relay at the end.
Jane had to race with us to make the teams even.
